Madison-area barbers will provide hundreds of free haircuts to kids as they head back to school this calendar year.
Starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 24 from the Alliant Energy Center, more than 30 barbers will be spending their Sunday making sure students in grades K-12 have the cut and confidence they want to head back to class.
Seventeen years ago, Jeff Patterson, owner of JP Hair Design started this initiative as a way to give back to his community. After a few years, with huge community support, the event outgrew the space on Madison's west side and moved to AEC.
Now dozens of organizations, sponsors and community partners work together to put on the massive event each year.
To register for a haircut, please sign up here.
The Madison Reading Project will be on site Sunday morning allowing kids to take home a new read.
Dane County Immunization Coalition will also be at the event to offer the recommended vaccines for kids ages 5-18.
