Thanks, I was excited for a second, then started looking closer, this thing looks like a base model.

How much of that I wonder is people trying to use this to bore holes through multiple studs.

I have this drill and it works well enough, but it is an old design and lacks polish. I needed to drill a bunch of holes in a studbay and I couldn't get a regular drill in there. I would probably buy again if I were in the same situation, but I would look for alternatives first.

This is a brushed model and is pretty old. I don't think there is a replacement for it in the model line. if you need a medium duty cordless right angle drill this is the only party in DeWalt town. They make a big boy studbay drill, but it is waaay bigger than this one.

Probably cheaper to buy the right angle attachment and the keyless drill chuck if you already have a drill or impact - lots of parts to carry around to just drill through a stud though.

These are 'toys'. Tried using one professionally, and on day 1 I let some of the smoke out (yes, drilling studs, and sometime multiples… I think that is its job). I know it's not for hole saws, but it should run sharp spade and auger bits for electrical work. It's actually still running, but not as powerful now. I use it as a light duty screwdriver or drill when installing cabinets now.

I have this. I wouldn't call its a toy, it's handy in some situations but very under-powered. Real stud drills with power are of course $300+ so you get what you pay for. A real stud drill can also rip your arm off, this one is much less hazardous in that way, so there's that. If its just drilling through a single 2x4 pine studs it's fine but yea you can smoke out the motor pretty easily going through multiple studs, using large hole saws, or, in my case, when you hit 200 year old framing members that happen to be oak. Replacement motor is like $35 and an easy swap out, I did it once.

A regular 1/2" drill bit is a good match for this tool if you have one that will fit the 3/8 chuck. If using spade bits, avoid the "speed bore" style and just get the vanilla flat cutting edge spade bits. Speed bore spades will put you in smoking the motor territory, they need a drill with much higher torque.

I already ordered and ready for pickup. Compare to Ryobi, Makita, and Milwaukee as the same range, Dewalt is more powerful and up to 2000 RPM. I just wish Dewalt has the RIGHT or LEFT HANDLE ATTACHMENT like Makita. But as this price, can not ask too much.
