The previous model Midea 12,000 BTU 3-in-1 portable AC without inverter tech has the EnergyGuide estimated yearly energy cost of $123 with a 7.9 efficiency ratio. This model currently sold at Costco is listed at $68/year, 13.8 efficiency ratio.

EDIT: thanks to a couple people that have pointed this out, but this particular model does not have the heat pump. The ones that I have does and the model numbers are pretty similar, my apologies. These are still pretty good units though.

This is a great unit for those who are curious. Also a great price for a dual hose, inverter, heat pump unit. I didn't one of these to the lobby of our business to help in the summer and winter from being so cold in there, and it runs like a top. Is also very quiet compared to other portable units.

But if you know how to read, the majority of those bad reviews have to do with units that came damaged, probably during shipping.

Or they're complaining about stuff like water drainage issues, which is due to the humidity of the places they chose to live in.

Or "I Had to hire a contractor to carry it up the stairs and install it." That's not Midea or Costco's fault.

It sure will. They will idle down to about 100 watts in low demand. My experience is they run for far less than a conventional AC unit--and I have 3 dual inverter Mideas.

PSA: This air conditioner has an ionizer. Ionizers are linked in peer-reviewed studies to multiple health problems, including heart problems. For your safety, it is recommended to purchase air conditioners and air purifiers WITHOUT ionizers.
Any recommendations?
Window A/Cs are always the better pick versus portable A/Cs: more efficient, quieter, and don't take up space in your room. Go for a window A/C if you can

Anyone know the wattage use at low med and high? Does this use more watts compared to a 12k mini split with 21 seer rating?
I was running mine at 68 degree and it is 1.5 - 1.7 Kwh. So it is very energy efficient.

Good catch my apologies. The model I have does have the heat pump and I got the model numbers mixed up. I thought they were the same.

I got one of these and it did absolutely nothing to remove humidity in my shop. I think it may have even increased it, but my cheap monitors aren't precise enough to be sure. I'm not sure if I got a bad unit because it really shouldn't be possible. Just fyi if you live in a humid environment.

I got one of these refurbished for $199.99 from Walmart about a month ago. Our wiring isn't the greatest and I have problems running my computer while gaming and a higher than 5000 BTU air conditioner on the same circuit. When I first got it I tried playing my computer after I first turned on this portable unit and unfortunately it blew the breaker. I tried again later after the air conditioner had been running for awhile and it was cooled down and haven't had a problem since so the inverter is definitely using less power after it reaches the set temp.

Kinda misleading, but I see your point. All I know is that after using this unit last year, between June - October, my bills went from $143/mo to $297-336/mo. We used the unit between 9pm - 2am and 12pm - 4pm.

Just picked one up today. Had to drive to a further Costco than normal since our local one was not on sale (stupid, right?). Now, for the hook-up! Smilie

I use mine about 11pm-8-am in San Diego and I believe my bills only went up $20-$40/mo. Granted, the inside air is 80 F, the outside air is 68 F, and I'm cooling to 70 F. It definitely runs the compressor but the amount of work it has to do is probably pretty minimal.

I have an older model Midea 12k unit, maybe 2-3yrs old. My KASA plug app measured about 1100watts max, but typical is around 300-400 watts.

No issues with condensation, mold, etc. Best portable AC unit I've used by far.
