I bought one for $30 maybe 6 months ago. The same store for the R36H. It does come with a 64GB microSD fully loaded w/ ArkOS and a bunch of games. It's recommended to swap out that 64GB card with a reputable brand card, as it's inevitable that it will fail.

I would recommend googling some guides how to set up the R36S (R36S is exactly the same as R36H internally), including putting the latest version of ArkOS or your choice OS on there. 128GB or 256GB are cheap and you should be able to load Atari all the way up to PS1/PSP/Dreamcast, plus many arcade systems like Naomi and CPS.

It runs pretty much all systems flawlessly, though it's hit or miss on PSP/Dreamcast. I've enjoyed playing puzzle games and RPGs mostly. It's not nearly as fun to play SF2, MK series, etc. on such a small handheld.

I'm so sorry! Big Grin Please don't be like me and end up with too many of these that you end up having to resell later lol
I think I spend more time modding mine than playing them Smilie.

Kids enjoy them and I enjoy them playing games back from my childhood days.

Have the OS in one SD and ROMs on the other one, makes it easier to update or install other/better firmware

Could someone recommend an inexpensive six button variant of one of these things?
SF2 is just not the same with four buttons.

Same here Smilie The tinkering aspect is a big part of the fun for me. Trying out different firmwares, trying to tweak the emulator settings just right to get those extra frames out of a particular game that isn't quite running at 100%, scraping box art, etc..

The only 6-button device that comes to mind right away is the Anbernic RG Arc S (and its sibling, the Arc D). The Arc S is not dirt cheap, but can be found for $50.14 right now (link). It's a Linux-based handheld with a 4" screen, RK3566 chipset (pretty good for CPS2 / CPS3 emulation, some Dreamcast, some PSP, some N64), and 1GB of RAM; among other features. No joysticks, however. Just by looking at it, you can see they had the SEGA Saturn / Genesis 6-button gamepads in mind. It's a bit of a chunky device too.

I can't think of anything in the $20-$40 range that has 6 buttons; but if I find one today, I'll follow up.

Thanks, this is good.

No problem at all, thanks for the post and great deal! I can't wait for a system that will run Dreamcast/N64/Gamecube games a bit better without spending an arm and a leg.
The mangmi-air-x looks promising at οΌ„75 but probably can't play all GC games flawlessly.

Theres also the Retroid Pocket classic with 6 buttons config, but its almost 2x the price of the Arc-S currently (and over 5-6x the price of these R36 units). Still the Retroid is going to be much more premium so if you're buying something you expect to last you for years, it might be worth it.

I don't understand why SlickDeals is suddenly flooded with these kinds of emulation devices. Is the industry slapping Nintendo in the face (and rightly so)?
I don't know what you mean by slapping Nintendo in the face. No one is buying these out of spite.

They're kind of novel, fun, surprisingly powerful little handheld computers. They're cheap enough to be nearly an impulse purchase. They appeal to both tinkerers and people who want to play the games they grew up with more easily on a modern system.

There was a huge influx of raspberry pi stuff a few years ago. More versatile obviously, but just in general I think this kind of cheap computing device is something that appeals to the type of person who browses SD. I really doubt there's anything more coordinated or sinister to it.
