In before the "z-wave is dead" crowd.

Z-Wave is still the best performing platform out there the whole "oh but you need a hub" is just BS. so what, spend $30-$80 once and get a stick or hub or whatever, and you can connect multiple devices to it.

Wi-Fi devices work OK, Matter is steaming bag of disappointment. Matter over Thread is even worse.

Zigbee works well also - but crowds the 2.4ghz space and depending on your router's channels, might interfere with your 2.4ghz network. You need to pre-plan deployment.

I'm waiting on ordering the Home Assistant "Paper towel holder" z-wave coordinator/hub. It's a beast and will allow me to reach further into my property.

Z-wave is, in my opinion, the current king of home automation protocols. That's a hill I'm willing to die on.

I've been using these Zooz switches (various series) all over my house for at least 5 years and have never had a single one fail. Maybe you have a wiring issue?

It's a shame that every sale this year can't reach the low sale prices we saw last year for these switches. But I guess that's our new reality.

Are these better than Tapo/Kasa smart switches?
Tapo/Kasa are WiFi, so compatible for anyone with a wireless router/access point(s)/mesh system. They are inexpensive, well made, and work well for me.

You'll need Z-Wave for the Zooz Z-Wave switches. Do you have a Z-Wave hub/dongle in place now?

If you're just starting out, TP-Link's Tapo/Kasa products are a good place to start from IMO, they have a decent phone app and they're compatible with the mainstream voice assistants, and can be used in routines on those platforms. If you go down the Smart Home rabbit hole, they'll also integrate locally with Home Assistant.

If all you're looking to do is jump in with say a porch light automation or a way to voice control lights in your house, the TP-Link products have been good for me. I use them for porch lighting, overhead can lights, 3-way lighting and 3-way dimmer lighting. The amount you'll save on their switches will finance any WiFi upgrades you may want to do if you get more in to it. I have a dozen installed with no issues.

Buy a spare. I was introduced to these on an SD thread and I have replaced 4 of 13 switches in 5 years. Hopefully this 800 series is more durable as none of them have failed yet, but they are all only a year or two in use. I honestly do appreciate them so long as they work as they are much more practical than smart bulbs.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but add another here that have nothing but great things to say about Zooz.

I have over 25 Zooz switches (among other Zooz products) in my house with some near/at least 7 years old. Literally have not had a single one fail. Their customer service is top notch as well. They're quick to respond to any issues or general questions I've thrown their way.

GE switches on the other hand are hot garbage. I started with them before going all in on Zooz and had at least 6-8 fail over the years.

Happy shopping!
Like many here, I started with smartthings, and then upgraded to Home Assistant. Most things in the house are z-wave, as I don't want many things using wifi, or the 2.4ghz bands. I do have a few things flashed with esphome or tasmota.
I have not used Zooz before, as I was all in on GE / Jasco, but I've replaced at least 10 z-wave switches with same devices. I think I should have just swapped over to Zooz, like quite a few others here. Like you said, GE is hot garbage.
I do have one 3-way dimmer switch that is connected to 4 BR40 Reveal can lights, and somehow, I just keep burning one out (as in, it dies in 6 months). This has happened to about 5 bulbs or so in the past 2 years. I'm wondering if a swap of dimmer switch would help me out here, not sure what else to do. Each can gets 120v and 15A steady...🤔

I switched from GE switches and needing add on switches to zoos over 5 years ago. Amazing brand and so cool they connect to 3 or 4 way only needing one switch. I've installed about 2 dozen of these and haven't ever had one fail.

The zoos devices have a high failure rate on the LED, they just burn out after 14 months. the company refuses to warranty them since technically they are out of warranty. However they know that there is a problem, but they just wont do anything about it.

Well....no idea who or what leaded you to post it , but it is far, far away from the reality. I installed more than 800 of those for my customers. Some 4 years ago. I did not notice 'high failure rate' , nor none of other users here. I don't think that defective rate exceed 2%. In many cases there are dimmers tend to die, not well protected against surge in circuit. .
And finally : hard to believe that company refused warranty, since that are under FIVE years warranty terms. You don't even know that and saying, that you were denied ? So, possibly you are posting about different brand or just have a reason to write such crap. I do hope that company will respond you as well , since it is very serious accusation and sound like a brand defamation. Everybody can post his own experiences with the company, so please provide more details about your case.

The Zwave stick? If so, yes.

Anyways, isn't this their normal "sale" price?

This is all new to me. I was prepared to shell out $30-40 for the adapter Smilie

Garage door controller relay is about 40% off compared to similar model on Amazon so that one I will def get.

Brown out, surges, etc., are notorious for breaking smart switches - always good to have a spare or two... especially if your entire house is 'smart'.
Bought a house 5 years ago with all these switches. You're exactly right about the brown out/surges. I've replaced 6 so far, all failed during storms.

I'm just here to show support, I've got around 50 zwave devices mingled into my Home Assistant instance along side a miriad of other wifi & POE things....the zwave stuff has been the most solid by far. Truth be told the majority of my zooz switches are still the OG 500 series going strong. Customer service experience with them has been top notch aside from one 500 series switch failure that I'll agree to disagree on. I still buy thier products without hesitation.

I used to lose a few switches a year. Then I installed a whole home surge protector. Haven't lost one since. I never had dirty enough power to kill any major electronics, but I suspect there was occasionally minor surges like after a power outage that took a toll on them.

My 700 series tiny AEOTEC works well enough. Hate to buy something else, but dang that antenna might open up possibilities that I am unable to anticipate yet lol.
