the v1 were notorious for randomly failing for no good reason, to the point where we, and a bunch of others I know if the videography world moved away from Sandisk to Samsung T9's.

Is there a big difference in the t9 over the t7 for a casual user? Big difference in price at the moment.
We usually either get the T7 Shield, or T9 instead of the normal T7
speed, ruggedness, and heat are the main differences
- the T9 is usb USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, which gets you up to 2000 MB/s vs 1000 20 MB/s that most other USB 3.2 Gen 2 drives top out at. BUT you need specific hardware/port to take advantage of the full speed, and is not automatically FULLY backwards supported on thunderbolt/USB 4 (will work at 1000 MB/s) so no mac can make use of the full speed
- Ruggedness is great if its gonna be more portable, especially for my field where we don't want to risk footage with the drive going bad out at shoots. Havne't had any drive fail us, and they do take a fall sometimes. the T7 shield will be more rugged, as its also waterproof (IP65), the T9 is not
- It won't get hot enough to stop working, but I have heard that the t7's can get a bit warm to the touch with its metal casing. the T9 and T7 shield are a little bulkier and handle heat dissipation better
