A switch is how you add ports to your router. If you dont have a need for more ports then you don't need a switch.

I got this on sale for prime day. Works perfectly for me NAS, printer, AP, etc. No issues and has been running without a hitch for 6 weeks now.

this one is cheap of course, and supports wired connection but other than that what's the reason y'all are buying this? most modern routers can do most of these switch features, isn't it?
good luck find a 1000M router within 10 bucks

Cool. Do you have a link to a $10 router with extra LAN ports?

Your router in your laundry closet has 4 LAN ports, you connect one to get internet to your office/game room upstairs.

You wanna hardwire every device in your media room (ps5, switch, gaming pc, docking station for work etc)
how do you think you will do that?

New to this, we are building a home and have the Ethernet jacks in just about every room. I don't see the "in" jack from the wall to give the 5 ports Internet. What am I missing or can any of the 5 be used as the "in"?

Yes. All ports are the same, data rates are symmetric. You'd need more expensive gear with a lot of ports before you'd start having 1GB normal ports + 10GB upstream ports.

To add ports that's all it does

One port would connect to the wall the rest would go to different devices.
