Funny - the picture of the front of the unit shows that it has a heating (heat pump) function, the the description only mentions 3-in-1 (cool, dehumidify, fan). Lazy marketing I guess...

Good catch! At this price I'm pretty sure there is no heat function.

How does this compare to a portable Midea Duo with 14000/12000 BTU? I always see comments saying that window units are much better at cooling, but BTUs are BTUs right? My Duo keeps my room freezing cold when its 100F outside, but a window unit is much more convenient and less hassle...

Yup agreed - almost positive this unit does not include heat pump function.

Nope, no heat. I'm not sure why it found that image.

BTUs for portables are massively inflated. Given how inefficient they are, I'd never recommend buying one unless you have NO other options. This will probably be much better at cooling while also saving you a ton of money.

i like the heat pump version, but it only works when it's 41F or above.

Just a tad under 40F from my experience. When that thing reverses the Ozone smell is strong. Still a good price for inverter AC unit.

Since it says inverter compressor, would that imply it has a soft start feature? If so that would make this ac fantastic for emergency use in extended power outages and you have a ~2000w gas inverter generator, as you can keep it running on eco mode and it will have time to ramp up the engine to support the load of a slow start compressor without needing to suddenly put out 800 watts to kick the compressor and running power draw be like 250 watts. It's not fun having a window unit like this along with a refrigerator running on the same 1600 running/2000 peak watt inverter generator and with the refrigerator running if the window unit tries to turn on ends up overloading the generator and trips the breaker and you lose power to everything, requiring going to restart generator, then plug in everything in the right sequence and let them start so you don't have the generator overload again…However pairing an EcoFlow delta 2 with an inverter generator seems to solve these kinds of problems but that's another $600 for something effectively being used like a giant capacitor for the generator.

I have 6 of the U shaped version. I can't speak to this one in particular, but I will say I prefer the U shape in general because a window will insulate way better than the plastic wings on traditional AC units and then you just have to seal up a small portion otherwise. If I were in the market for one of these, I'd personally hop up to those...

That is EXACTLY my use case. I haven't tested mine yet, but plan to soon (or at least before next summer).
I've got a 8000w generator that will cover our well pump, fridge, freezer, and some small things. Then a 2000w inverter generator that is usually for odd jobs around our 5 acres, but also a less loud backup. Finally, I've got an Ioniq 5 with V2L that can output a 15A circuit with surprisingly decent surge coverage.
As part of my backup plan for our house, I've put in a propane fireplace with fan for heat, and now this for cooling, both in the main bedroom/bath.

My hope is that I can run this (or the fireplace fan), the fridge, and the freezer off of my car without tripping it. If not, the inverter generator should be able to do it.
