The FPV new model seems much better. This is now 3 generations old with a new model coming. Also keep in mind for entry level and about the same price you can get the new Neo and Goggles new with an intuitive controller.

I have this and love it but if you live in the city I'd suggest getting a cinewhoop or tinywhoop to get more flying hours. I rarely get to fly this since I can't dedicate the time to drive out to an open area.

Sorry for the newbie question - but do these only fly in the direction you're looking? Aka is it impossible to fly north but have the camera (your view) aiming east or south?

I feel like has happened at least once before -- maybe 6 months ago. This is an older model.

The camera faces forward with tilt afaik. You control it like you're in a cockpit

Pretty sure you can't buy new DJI stuff because government thinks they're evil.
So you gotta buy refurb or used. Or buy no name brands that generally suck more in terms of "dummy proofing" the product

Do you have a link to a full kit of either one of those that you'd recommend?

No the goggles are omnidirectional. But If an obstruction comes between you and your drone you'll probably lose signal - but if that happens they stop fly up then return to home

It's a quadcopter, a helicopter -- it can fly in any direction.

An airplane is always flying forward (minus some exceptions like stalls) but a multicopter/helicopter can hover or fly in any direction -- left/right/up/down/forward/back or some combination thereof.

So if you're flying this and you point the camera at something and move the right stick to the right, the craft will fly to the right and your camera will still be pointed forward. You won't be able to see where you're going (so hopefully you've already made sure there are no obstructions, or have a spotter to tell you), but the craft will do it, and this is a totally normal thing to do.

With a little skill you could circle an object and yet keep the camera pointed right at the object.

I haven't been around the hobby recently to have a recommendation but my advice is to make 100% sure the drone is less than 250grams, with the battery installed. This is the weight limit which does not require you to get a license. You'll still need to take the TRUST safety test but as long as the drone is at line of sight you can fly it in your backyard or around the house since they are small. Check out Bardwells video, this guy has a lot of great drone content. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6FLrGhE9g0
