wish it was OLED, but thatd probably bump the price a couple hundred more.
Anyone have experience with this family of laptops? never owned an MSI laptop.
I have not but I know MSI has a good reputation for laptops. Just make sure you get a few years of warranty, I think micro center has really good ones. Anytime you spend this much on tech you want to make sure your covered for at least two years.
Microcenter continues with their in-store only thing. Also they will not let you buy more than one, or buy TAX exempt if you're a business. It's like they don't want to sell.
This "come to my store thing" is a tactic widely used in the 80's and 90's, because people would buy other stuff they saw on the shelves. This does not work now but MC's execs don't seem to get the hint. Nowadays people know in advance what they want, search for the best price, go and get out (if they must, like in this case". With any luck they will sell a laptop bag along with their below-cost laptop. Loyal customers don't exist anymore, either.
I see them going down in a couple of years.

The limit one per customer rule was implemented because scalpers were buying many NVIDIA GPUs at a time during the RTX 3090/4090 series. And scalpers have easily overcome it by just going into the store and making multiple transactions

Ultra 9, 5080 and 16gb or RAM. WTH are they thinking?
That people think they need a ton of ram are wrong?
Well 16gb is the BARE MINIMUM. The minimum in this "High Spec" laptop should be 32GB which is still not a "Ton" of Ram
I agree that 32GB is a minimum. I got a very similar laptop to this with 16GB and upgraded very quickly because performance was lacking. It was night and day.
I have a similar laptop and love the performance. The main differences being that I have more ram and an OLED screen. But the performance on 5080 laptop has been great. I would recommend upgrading the ram tho.

This has been one of the best prices for a 275HX 5080 laptop though. Even if the tradeoff is having to upgrade the RAM.
I agree for todays market it seems to be a fair price, but no 80 series laptop should cost 2k at least not without having an oled 240 hz and 64gb of ram, I would also like to see 4tb drives in it.
