Reviews say you need to empty chain oil between uses or it leaks out in storage. I've never heard of that being a thing before. Terrible design if true.

I got this for $135 I think last month when that goofy Midwest department store that I forget the name of had a big dewalt sale. No idea if it often goes down that low though.
As far as I know the 60v 14, 18 and 20 inch chainsaws are all fine and the old 16" one is the model everyone hates

I think all the DeWalt chainsaws leak oil, which is why the manual says to drain it when storing it. not hard, just dump it out. I use a 2stroke oil measurement bottle to store it in, because it's small and has a wide mouth, easily fits a funnel with a filter. As far as the bar tensioner, there are better gears available from DeWalt they put in the newer saws, if you have that problem the small tooth gears probably broke, and they make thick beefy gears that drop right in. Cost less than $25. The saw rips and chews through batteries. It's a great saw.

My 20V DeWalt and 40V Ryobi both leak oil. I have a puddle in my garage that's going to be an issue working on the insulation and drywall this weekend because they will leak. Wish I had a case for them, because I'll forget.

all my chainsaws leak oil. gas powered or battery upto 24 inch blades

can confirm the leaking but you just store it sideways with the reservoir up. never leaked a drop after that.

We've had the earlier 60v saw with the 16 inch blade for a few years. Does a decent job for an occasional use saw. Yes, they leak bar oil if you sit them in the usual, upright position. But the simple fix we've found is to just sit it on the side, with the oil fill hole up, and no more leaks (no, it doesn't leak from then fill hole, but that storage position prevents the leaking inside the mechanism). Even our Stihl gas saws will leak oil.
