chopping up a squeezed lime/lemon into smaller pieces along with ice and finally baking soda makes for a economical, effective, and fresh smelling solution to garbage disposal funk.

I've always been told you don't want to put ice in the garbage disposal and turn it on. More likely to cause damage to your disposal especially if there's a lot of ice

I've been putting a cup of cubed ice in the disposal to clean for 30 years with no issue (though my disposals are reasonably stout). What I fine works best is dumping in a lot of softer ice (i.e., after using in a cooler). Amazing how much grime comes up the drain from what you think is a clean disposal.
