Not sure how far 8K content has come, but this seems like a great bang for your buck - - QLED, 8K, ultra large screen at 85 in. and under $2000, I'll give it a shot - - I see 2025 models near $5000 for same size and technology

I have the 65" QN800D and it is a fantastic 8K TV.

I am not familiar with this 850D model that apparently sat between the 800D and 900D.

Would this be overkill for a small room 10'×12'?

It depends. If you are watching high quality content, and sitting along the length of the room, will be like a movie theater. SD content will depend on the up scaling. Look up the online watching distance calculators.

You'd be fine if you sat at the 12' side. This upscales everything so you won't see pixels like you might think.

We have a 65" in the master and our heads lay at the 13' side opposite the wall and I have thought about going 77".

You would not want to sit too much closer than 10' for sure.
