This was ranging from 1k6-2k a month ago depending on CPU/RAM/SSD/Screen (still has 5080) from HP, feel free to check expired deal. I did buy one but it arrived with damaged bottom panel so I returned it. What a pity!

Couldn't you have exchanged it? I missed out on that deal and at that price I would have 100% tried to get an exchange. I had it in my cart for $1515+tax with the 20% off coupon...had the Ultra 7, 5080, 2560x1600 LED, 16gb Ram, 512gbHD, white chassis, Wireless 7 config. I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on it. IIRC, there was some sweet cash back worth at least 10% as well.

It's ruined my perspective of every laptop deal.

At this price, absolutely. The Legion is much better and has no thermal throttling or power cutoffs.

I just bought this exact laptop from Best Buy for $2300 - 30% cash back rewards as open box excellent. It feels really nice and solid. Original price is definitely not $3800 (Best Buy shows MSRP as $3300 for this model). It's a quality laptop, but I don't think I could justify spending $2500 for it as HP was selling the same laptop but with only 1 TB SSD for $2080 a little while ago (without using any rewards portals).

edit: Best Buy says MSRP is $3160, not $3300.
