I remember in 2020 these 12 packs were creeping up from $.78 to $.98 a can, then $1.12, then they shot up astronomically to over $2 a can. For near-bottom-barrel dog food.

I also had read that there was nearly no reason when the ingredients raw cost had not scaled accordingly. That even human-grade ingredients didn't increase in costs in the same way to rationalize the increase in pet food costs across the board. That most of it was being increased, essentially "because pet owners love their animals" and would be willing to pay more.

Welp, now that the cost of living has skyrocketed, I predict pet food may see contraction as people forego adopting pets due to the overall increased vet bills, food, and other care for pets. Just my own theory and thanks for coming to my Ted talk!
