Sometimes in the year of 2023,
Inventory worker A: hey boss, we have a bunch of 256GB SSD.
Cheap bastard manager B: let's put them in the laptops with windows OS.
That literally made no sense. If the worker is A, how can the manager be B when those are two different posts? Were you trying to be funny?
More importantly, how is storage even an issue when it's easy to upgrade? Since RAM wasn't an issue here, you had to nitpick something, and you chose storage. However, let me tell you that, unfortunately, you failed in whatever you were trying to achieve here.

seems like the going price for one of these laptops... not much of a deal?

16gb of ram make this a solid deal. This would work great with even a heavy linux distro. Put Bazzite on it for retro gaming or PopOS! for daily driving.

Ram is soldered on but it takes a mM2. 2280 or 2230 ssd. Wifi is replaceable.
WWAN card supported.

I'd put in a 1tb ssd, give it a 16gb swapfile, and run debian xfce. The combo would scream and be useful for years ahead.

Is the swap file the same as the page file? I always thought it was better to disable especially if you have enough RAM

Workable machine. Solid build on Latitude. Screens not great. A bit heavy. I'd go with the 7420. Used to buy these on Dell's outlet, refueb.

Dell Latitude 5420 is $250 on Amazon Renewed Store. Has better display and RAM isn't soldered.

I bought this deal. It looks like I can charge it with USB-C, let's hope the review isn't a different variant.

I believe the entire latitude line from this spec and newer include charging over USB C ( and newer models ONLY support this method )

Yes its the same. I find on a linux machine, have an equal size pagefile keeps systems stable when the RAM is getting taxed heavily. Like from gaming.

If not gaming but just web browsing multiple tabs like 10-20 at a time is it worth even having the pagefile? Mine is showing 3GB. Would it run slower with the page file disabled?

I've actually been shopping refurbs and I agree this seems kind of normal price. maybe on the good side of normal but nothing crazy. id say worth buying if you needed. I have a few I've been keeping tabs on that are similar spec and price @ Newegg.
