Because they don't like Macs, because you get more for your money with Windows vs a Mac. Bc windows pca can be bought for less. Because they don't want a system whose ram and ssd drive is not upgradeable. Most of the world, business and consumer uses windows.
Thanks for the clarifications. I agree with most of the points, except "because you get more for your money with Windows vs a Mac". I bought a $2000+ DELL XPX for my wife that had a battery issue. Instead of replacing battery I just bought her a M4 Pro MacBook Pro 14". She had a strong resistance against MacBook but I told her I am not going to buy another fancy laptop unless it's a Mac. Now she adores her Aluminum slab. It took her probably a week tops to fully switch to MacBook. Of course that's a very expensive MacBook but it was equivalently priced to XPX (both around ~$2K). And if I sell her laptop 5 years later, I will probably still recoup $500+. A windows XPX will be hard to sell for anything after 5 years (that's from my past experience). If we want, we can use that laptop for next 10 years. Even if the battery dies, we can get genuine Apple service.

Please don't get me wrong. I want strong competition. The fact that people are still buying Windows, keeps me happy. Apple at least have some competition. Otherwise the $800 MacBook Air would become $2000.
When I was talking about getting more on a Windows PC than a Mac I was talking about features. One of the biggest is the RAM and the hard drive which you get more of on a Windows PC compared to a Mac and it's also user upgradable more often than not. When you buy a Mac, upgrading is simply not an option at all. As for the bad battery on the Dell PC, that was a fluke. Based only on your post it doesn't appear that you went to get it fixed at all you just opted to go get her a Mac.People do not buy computers thinking of the resale value down the line. It doesn't matter whether you buy a Mac or a PC nobody thinks of the resale value down the line. they think does this PC meet the needs that I have right now and potential future needs for X many years to come. I have an 11-year-old Microsoft Surface PC that runs Windows 11 and when it was shipped originally, it had Windows 7. The computer is still usable today.

Not really true. PCs went the way of the Mac and most laptops have the RAM soldered and sometimes even storage.

False. Low end PCs usually have soldered ram. Midrange is hit and miss regarding ram expansion. Higher end allow expansion. 💯

OK, so here's a coincidence. I bought one of these open-box on Friday and returned it yesterday. I thought that with a discrete 4050 GPU it would be better than my Surface Pro 11 with the Snapdragon X Plus (10-core), it wasn't. On top of that, I installed CrystalDiscInfo and it showed only 62% SSD health, and a power-on time of over 13,700 hours! Obviously, it was the floor model that NEVER got turned off. Anyway, the performance was underwhelming so it went back.
so these software like crystaldidcinfo are the best way to find out if it was always on floor model?

It's available free from the Windows Store.

I have a 2017 macbook pro that had a swollen battery 2 times within the first year, macs are not immune.

I would agree the build quality of Macs are consistent and MacOS is a breath of fresh air compared the ad-riddled mess Windows 11 is... until you try to play a game or run Windows software. I'd argue that the Mac is a better machine, but you straight up can't do the same stuff on a Mac you can on a PC. That's the big factor.

I just never understood why anyone would buy anything except a startup MacBook Air that now comes with 16GB RAM
Hardware aside, Macs are not ideal as gaming machines and not everyone likes or wants to run Mac OS.

Got one of the last $691 Fairs in Dallas, and shows 14,000 hours and 65% SSD health and battery has dropped from 58,288 mWh to 54,460 mWh. It's in very good condition, but figured it was floor model since it had no box or charger. Arlington Outlet had one that sold out while I was deciding stores that might've had better luck. Will look into the warranty situation before deciding to keep it but it's a hell of a computer for $700.
