My email confirmation does show $35 though so I guess the worst case scenario is that I'd have to open a dispute with my credit card company if the final charge is $50 instead of $35.

Perhaps your credit card was declined?
If you were trying for the additional $15 savings, perhaps HSN determined that you're not really a *new* customer (perhaps you should use a brand new virtual credit card number and a brand new email address)?
