- Refurbished. Assuming by Amazon, since it's not specified otherwise. Beware, since they employ the patented "A to Z Spit Shine Refurbishment Process", which is usually more spit than shine.
- 90 day warranty. After 3 months, hope you have nothing wrong with it. I'm sure the age of the machine won't be an issue.
- 5 year old machine. Oh, right. Something that's been used and abused for 5 years....who knows what could be wrong with it. Or how long the battery will last.
- Specs: 16GB RAM | 256GB SSD. Well, I'll give them something...that's not the worst you can get. 16gb is the absolute barebones for 2025. Same with 256gb. Ideally you should be looking at a 32gb/512gb for entry level machines in this day and age. Since Apple is such a "green" focused company, I'm sure they allow you to swap out the ram and ssd so you get better longevity out of the hardware, thus reducing ewaste. Right?.....right? Um, anyone?
The M4 Air....brand new with similar specs....can be found for $750-800. So for $275 more, you can get something that's not a 5-year-old beat up garage sale find. If you're going to play the "but imma (imma?) on a budget!!1!eleven!" card, then there are plenty of refurbished Dell laptops for $125-250 w/ 10-12th gen Intel, 32gb ram, and 512gb ssd. No reason for a luxury device like an Apple if you're pinching pennies -- far more economical options available.

I agree with the more spit than shine. I bought an Amazon renewed premium iPad mini six, with the 365 day moneyback guarantee, and the iPad arrived with really heavy scratches on the screen and the body, and would you believe it the return and refund process was a complete nightmare? Borderline scam
And I thought I'd be safe, since you know... they're Amazon products. They control the refurbishment!
Womp womp, wrong! The Kindles had battery lives around 30-45 minutes of casual use. Now, I know the Oasis isn't as spunky as its Paperwhite cousin, but 30 mins of use is a far cry compared to DAYS of use. It was a headache to get them returned -- they almost didn't want to do it. Apparently "full working order" means "they turned on, what more didyawant?" They did literally ZERO refurbishment other than wipe down with a wet....nay, a dry cloth.
The two Gen1 Echos were even better -- DEAD ON ARRIVAL. And they tried to blame my power outlet, my circuit breaker, yadda yadda yadda. Thing is, I had three other identical Gen1 Echos. I easily swapped AC adapters between them, tested them in a known good environment. What a headache.
For both items, the WORST part was "oh this is an AMAZON product, you need to get a warranty claim through them." I attempt to do that, and Amazon says "oh this is a WOOT sale, you need to get a warranty claim through them." It wasn't until I escalated and voiced my frustration is when I got someone who wasn't reading the script to Madame Web.
