Saffron is definitely not that cheap and for a very good reason. Each little piece comes out of a the center of one flower so you can imagine the labor to grow all those flowers only for what is found in their center and to dry it so delicately.
This seems to be safflower which is a fake saffron variation that looks like Saffron and gives out color but no aroma or flavor, or very old saffron that wont give out as much aroma and flavor as it should.
This is coming from someone who grew up with Saffron and is part of my culture so hopefully you can trust me on it when I say
do yourself a favor and invest in the real deal.
