For me, this usually makes the difference between being tired and having a headache, and feeling clear headed with energy at the end of the day, working on my feet. It also works a lot better with a moist soaked hat (the fan cools the moist hat, the cooled hat and the fan both cool my head).
I have this exact build from summer 2023 (different brand but looks the same), bought 3x for relatives and myself at $18 each, and only used it during summer before neglecting the battery the rest of the year. This fan has 3 fan speeds but also can run with just the side fans or side+rear. The one I've been using still runs on lowest fan setting, both fan sets, for about 7 hours, and I've been using it for 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, for about a month per year. It's developed a light buzz-rattle in the right fan probably from getting a little loose. The % battery indicator is a bit off now, it will still run maybe an hour at 0%, so when I'm using it I unplug it about an hour after 100% to not overstress the battery.
My only real issues with the fan is that it rotates a little on my neck so I have to adjust it every hour or so when I notice, it's never fallen off and the arms can be folded in a bit to grip better if desired. The plastic can also feel a little sticky on bare neck, so I either flip my shirt collar up in between, or I use a moist PVA cooling neck towel that also works very well under it (the air intakes are on the outer sides). Oh, the fan is loud enough to cover up some outside sounds, but because of lower pitch it does blend in after a few minutes that I'm always surprised at the difference in what I can hear after turning it off. I don't count that as a negative issue though since it helps drown out the repetitive pop music at work.
I don't know what the best designs are for neck fans <$30 nowadays, but when I looked in 2023 this seemed to be it just from looking at a couple dozen different listings with at least a few dozen reviews. I even bought 3-4 other models, this was still the one I kept.
Quote from spookymulder :
these kinds of "coolers" don't work at all.
Waiting for the cheap belt coolers to come back.
Blowing up my shirt plus neck/face seems better
I have a belt fan cooler and know about how to use both clips to aim it under my shirt, but I still found it too finicky for what I get out of it. Instead I've had much better experience using a soaked PVA cooling vest even without a fan, but I do wear quick dry lightweight shirts and quick dry pants, and the PVA vest will drip water when properly charged, and it is definitely not discreet.

I have one I got years ago that I like⦠Wide enough and Bendy so it doesn't pinch my neck and long enough that it gets the front of my face and back of my neck.
All of the ones that I've seen lately here (and order to try) tend to be too narrow and too short :-(
Can anyone recommend ones that are longer and sufficiently wide?
