At $5 I'll always buy an Amazon branded plug. All of mine have held up over the years and join my smart home environment easily.
I've had a few TPlink plugs randomly just die out for comparison

At $5, you'll be buying this plug usually only once (if that) per account.
I've had a few of my Amazon plugs that always tell to me re-pair them to the existing system, even though they have been paired just fine in the past. Hasn't really happened to any of my other smart plugs.
Regardless this very YMMV has been posted and reposted for a few centuries by now, so not a hot deal.

That's the thing - I've only ever ordered the Amazon plugs when they've been this price with a promo from one single Amazon account. I'm probably up to 4 or 5 at this point
Never had to re-pair and my network is a little complex. Multiple access points and frequencies and many devices

Ive tried this promo at least 7-8 times in the past to no avail (code PLUG), but it finally worked!
So in summary, this seems targeted.
