I have one of these because it can pull off one trick that's AFIK rare with streamers... you can play video stored on a USB hard disk/SSD. I power it via a powered USB hub, which is also what I connect the hard disk to, with the hub also connected to the TiVo input. Installed VLC for Android and works fine for Blu-ray movies etc.

Last year I stumbled upon this awesome trick right before a family trip! Saved me from the uncertainty of the wifi and Internet speed. Do any of the onn devices have a port otherwise I may have to get another one.

how is the UI for multiple files on the external storage? pretty easy to select from a large catalog? or better to have just a couple of things on the drive at a time

I would second the ONN is a better value, but this would have a usb c and mini usb ports on it for charging or usb devices (storage, mouse ect..). I have this TIVO 4k in the guest room, but I will be replacing it with any thing more than the tiny 8gb it has stock. 8gb is useless.. That tv is a insucnia 32inch fire tv. And that pos only has 8gb (same as this) and runs a tv tuner app on top of the fire os .. oh what a mistake to buy that set.. ..

I added this just so I did not have to fiddle with the tv struggling to change apps and inputs..
