I did not have to drive thru the AI scanner, but they did rent me a car that needed an oil change, no windshield washer fluid and low tire pressure LMAO

They also have franchise locations where someone else owns it and pays Hertz a fee to use their name and system. This only applies to the corporate owned ones usually at hotspots like Airports.

Literally switched to Avis because of the AI scanner and first car I rented from them same thing - first oil change comes in, then low washer fluid , then tire pressure.

I still use Hertz and haven't had any issues (knock on wood).
However, if you have the AMEX Plat, you are automatically in the President's Circle level of the Gold Club, not sure if that affects whether or not they attempt to yank you around or not.

Friends don't let friends use Hertz (or Avis/Budget). The extra $50 you'll spend at Enterprise/National is worth not having to spend 5 hours dealing with standing in overcrowded/understaffed lines at the desk and the bogus Hertz/Avis charges disputes after you return the rental.

Never had any issue with Hertz, in France, in the US, or very recently (this week) in Italy, where the risks of disputes after you return the rental is from high (reputable brands) to extremely high (local low-cost brands which need this additional payment to function properly after their very low published prices)

As @jaimelobo wrote above: I knock on wood! 😄
