FYI you can buy these on Ebay if Amazon won't ship for your state. I wanted one for my wife.

Big 5 and Sportsman's Warehouse have them. Sportsmans also carries the Byrna projectile pistol and Sabre has their own. Both VERY effective and CA legal (a few states not): http://www.sabrered.com/projectil...-launcher/

I always carry a taco with me so that if someone sprays me with this while I am attacking them, I just hold up the taco as a shield and have a tasty spicy snack after I am done attacking them.

You won't need these in Florida with its ban on open carry.

I like that this is a visible color. In my experience the best use of these is as a proactive deterrent, hopefully making an active response unnecessary. Like door locks, the idea is to make the criminal think it's not worth the effort. If you do carry this in a less visible way, make sure it's easily accessible quickly not just shoved somewhere in a purse. I wish the attached ring was something easier to detach quickly; I'd suggest putting it on some kind of clip/carabiner that's secure but allows quick removal.

Test the spray upon receiving, and test every ~2 months or so. (IDK if you need to test the alarm). Obviously do this outdoors. Pepper sprays usually expire in 1.5-2.5 years. Make sure to replace these as necessary.

Testing is also a good opportunity to make sure you know how to use the trigger-lock quickly and can also be a chance to practice how to aim; try to have the person who will carry and possibly use this do the testing, don't do it on their behalf (or have them do it too).

Keep in mind pepper spray's purpose is to allow you to escape, not debilitate an attacker. Once deployed your primary goal is to put distance between you and an attacker. Don't hang out waiting for the police there - ideally go somewhere well lit and/or populated (eg, pop into a store if somewhere is open). THEN, when you are as safe as feasible, call 911.

These are legal in all states, though some have some or many restrictions. SABRE has a list of details on their site; don't let the fact that you can't buy from Amazon fully discourage you. (Someone else posted places which are more liberal with their shipping policies, but you should still make sure you are complying with local laws; aside from NY state mostly it's age restrictions.

The alarm is interesting though it seems like it has a built-in, non-replaceable battery making it effectively disposable (maybe?)? That seems meh. Not sure how useful it really is as, again, once you spray you should be running away and the noise makes you easier for the person to follow/find you. IMO the only safe way to use this would be to trigger it and immediately drop it before you put distance between you and your attacker.

That's odd. I bought pepper spray from Amazon and I'm in CA. I just had to verify my drivers license

Perfect timing. Mine just expired a couple weeks ago and I've been meaning to replace it. And who says procrastination doesn't pay?

Little off topic, but thought I would throw it in since it is semi related. I am just starting to learn about "non lethal" and "less lethal" self defense alternatives. The OP's post fits in this category.
In my research, depending on the situation, a a pepper spray device such as the OP's may not keep you safe.
Reddit has many posts on all this and alternatives available in "less lethal & Non lethal" categories with very informative comments from knowledgeable posters including law enforcement who have hands on experience with these self defense weapons in these categories.
I think if I wanted a product similar to OPs pepper spray and I could afford a few extra $$$, I would probably upgrade & opt for something like this:
SABRE Crossfire Pepper Gel - Red Formula $16.00
