No, I think it's just marketing to keep up with oil that supposedly lasts 25k miles.

I do. Honda's maintenance schedule is to change the filter every other oil change. The maintenance minder kicks in at 7k - 8k miles. I use M1 or Fram Ultra filters. Both are rated at 20k miles and built better than Honda's OEM filters. This lets me use an extractor half the time, which is really convenient.

Especially if you have a Honda V6 with the sideways filter

The ability to capture small particles improves with use. Downside is lower flow rate. A well designed engine in good working order should not put out a lot of contaminants. In this case, lean toward oil film strength and flow rate over filtration efficiency. New OEM Toyota oil filters favor flow rate over filter efficiency.

A neglected engine will quickly put the oil filter in bypass mode after an oil change. Many bypass devices are set at 12 psi differential.

Larger contaminants tend to settle in the oil pan. Best way to remove them is to run the engine at higher speed for a minimum of 30 minutes and immediately drain the hot oil overnight via the drain plug.

fyi

Some of the oil filters that were on clearance are OOS at Advance Auto but the price on Amazon is matching the Advance Auto sale.

Example: PL14610 which fits Honda CR-V, Accord, Civic, Pilot, Odyssey, HR-V, Fit, Nissan Frontier, TITAN, Xterra, Acura MDX and RDX.
