This bag is not great.

In this price range you should get YKK zippers.

The bag is not comfortable to wear because the straps are terrible.

The internal zippered main compartment makes getting things in and out a pain.

Most 28L packs don't need waist straps because they won't be packed with enough weight and waist straps won't make a noticeable difference in carry comfort. The waist straps on this bag create unnecessary weight and dangling straps (or straps behind your back or around your waist).

There are way better options in this price range. The Osprey 26+6 is cheaper and is way better.

You can get a very good used condition AER travel pack 3 small for this price and that bag is far superior.

This is a really nice backpack. well worth the money due to its excellent design and well constructed fabrication. Its not for people who just want a daypack - overkill. It is sized to be a personal item, not a carryon. You are allowed one personal item and maybe a carryon on most flights to avoid check in fees. So I use this as a personal item. When I go on international travel 6-8 weeks at a time, I use a personal item and either a carryon or a checked bag depending on locations. This also functions as a day pack as well, so one less thing to carry. If you are going for a weekend, you can use this as a personal item to carry on a plane and it will hold a weekend worth of clothes. This is for people who want a durable personal item sized travel pack.

For those who comment on zipper issues, I looked at a lot of these and the 28L doesnt have zipper issues. Its the larger 35L that does.

It's a good backpack but I would only buy it under 100

I have this, it's a comfortable backpack, the straps and back are padded enough and this line's selling point has been internal organization, as the compartments often substitute for packing cubes. I think the biggest weakness is the back is not very rigid so the weight can feel heavy on the straps, but a laptop helps as does the waist belt. Overall it is not designed for heavy loads, just like it's larger sizes, but I find it to be a good size for city day trips.

Sell me on this $140 backpack.
Go to a Lands End type store where you'll likely find this for $90, as we found many Cotopaxi items for 30-50% its website pricing there. Also a great way to FEEL these things. Great brand, but hell nah at this price .

I bought this exact 28L bag back in 2022 for $170 and I thought that was a good deal then. This is an excellent travel bag/briefcase that I use in both a professional environment and personal use. I can fit a ton in this and it's very well organized, has held up extremely well over the last 4 years. I'm a male, 6'4" and this is a good size for me and can pack at least 3 days of clothes in. Would recommend again.

How would this be compared to the Osprey 26+6?

I have the Osprey 26+6 and my girlfriend has the Alpa 28L. We took both bags to Vegas recently and I feel they're both pretty comparable. I could probably fit slightly more in my Osprey and I had to put a few of her things in my bag, but women do tend to pack a lot more than men.
I would prefer the Osprey probably, but I like the idea of these Cotopaxi bags. We got hers on Marketplace for $100 and she's happy but doesn't think she would have paid any more than that.

I personally have not tried the Osprey. I looked at it and while it has some nice features (upright attachment to roller, 2 water pockets), I ultimately decided against it because 1) No hip straps 2) not enough quick access pockets. I need several quick access pockets to store the electronics for planes I use (headphones, adapters, charger), wallet and phone when I go thru TSA, paper agenda and reservations (as backup to electronic copies), medicines and first aid kit. and sunglasses.

I have the topo. Have traveled with it around the world, 3 continents, over a dozen countries and am trying the cotopaxi to see how it compares. The topo has some really nice features and a few infuriating ones as well. The 3 best features is 1) lots of pockets 2) slim not baggy so it stays close to your body 3)can attach a day pack to it, The infuriating aspects: 1) water bottle pockets only accept slim bottles 2) the pockets in the front compartment are nearly useless, since I cannot get my hand inside them to get stuff out and they access sideways so stuff falls out 3) lack of the ability to get parts. If you lose a strap e.g. hip strap since they detach, you cant get a replacement. They dont sell spares, they dont even stock them, so you need a whole new bag. Makes no sense to me that detachable straps are not available period. It is comfortable to wear and loaded up it is still comfortable to wear esp since it has a chest and hip straps.

Got it, thank you for sharing your experience! Leaning towards the osprey as well but can't seem to let go of my trusty north face recon. Does well as a day pack but not while traveling

My biggest complaint with the Osprey is the old version, which I have, does not have a zippered front pocket. I'm always paranoid keeping anything important in that pocket because it can fall out.

The newer, current version they switched that out with a zippered version and it seems so much better. I've thought about trying to sell mine and buy the newer version, or keep using the one I have until it's so worn out I can do a warranty claim and most likely get a new one sent to me.

Osprey customer service and warranty are why I keep buying from them.

I do not have the 28L but I have the 35L and 38L wheeled version. Both of them have a problem around the zip area - not enough flex and I have to tug and fight with it.

So this post went FP after just 30 mins and 2 posts? Come on SD…
Deals do seem naked without comments, but a if deal is priced less than a previous front page deal and is getting votes it doesn't take long to get to the front page.
That's not always true, especially when it involves military/veterans deals. I see threads that have over 15 thumbs up that never see FP.

Is the zip issue on the new model? Is your 35L the newer model? TIA!

I was at REI and noticed that the 35L zipper catches on the edge of a interior pocket and sticks. If they sewed the interior pocket a few mm away from the edge it would not catch. It is a design defect. The 28L doesnt have that flaw, the zipper doesnt catch. This was the latest model.
