If my calculations are correct, then if you're running LLMs locally this is a great deal even at this price. Based on raw published INT8 TOPS, it is the *lowest* $/TOPS consumer card you can buy, and the only one (?) with 32GB memory.

What about power consumption?

Hehe, for me that was purely theoretical - it came about because I was trying to see whether I could *ever* justify buying a properly expensive graphics card. So far, the answer is still *no .That said, the fact that the 5090 is still the *best-value* card for AI shows that it is, if anything, *underpriced*

Sort of, you can I believe beat it with older equipment in groups. Like 4x 3060 12GB cards will set you back a grand at most and gives you 48 GBs of memory. I mean the TOPs won't even be int he same ballpark, but then the TOPS being that high on a 5090 is pretty irrelevant for most use cases when the onboard ram is that low unfortunately.

The entire comments section so far are why gamers are pissed. Something that can deliver an awesome gaming experience is suddenly used for some hot get rich quick fad (crypto/AI) and now costs stupid money.

yeah, really comes down to use case. generating images or videos often use one of your gpu's, for LLM usage you can run bigger models, but at what speeds? it's hard to say whether something is worth it across the board.

think it's less complicated than that. nearly 90% of the GPU market is Nvidia and cuda related, other gpu's don't have that monopolization, and prices slightly below NVIDIA, AI comes out, NVIDIA has all the support from software, llama.cpp, lm studio, comfy UI, everything runs easier on NVIDIA because of that grasp on market. so NVIDIA gets to price it wherever it wants. these cards are mostly going to businesses, gaming is secondary now, get rich quick isn't happening because of consumers who are hobbying, the money is coming from businesses trying to get ahead in the AI race that they've been sold by ChatGPT.

Yeah, my friend running 3060 12GB cards does decentbeing able to load much larger models because of the ram space. It's kind of funny, the 3060 with 12 GBs made a LOT of cards from the 40x0 and 50x0 series just not look like good value for AI in particular, and honestly for a lot of gaming. From a business perspective that card was probably a mistake lol

Inflation yes, but it is mostly because of the uncontested NVIDIA's space.

For FP16 and FP32 yes, it looks like you are correct, especially with the 3060 12GB - although depending on what prices you can find, the 8GB 3060 Ti or the 3070/Ti could still be better value if your models fit into 32GB instead of 48GB.The moment you get to INT8 though, the 5080 and 5090 absolutely *crush* all previous generations - the 5080 at list price ($999) get more than *three times* the TOPS-per-$ of the 3060. By raw numbers the 50-series is just a *ridiculous* uplift over even the40-series.(Note: I've run the numbers for *some* cards but not the entire 3/4/5 series, I am still working on that. Nevertheless, based on that performance, I would be surprised if *any* 5090s found their way into gamers' hands but I *would* expect more RTX 40's & 30's coming on the market as they are displaced by the RTX 50's).
