"Shelves are made of particle board" which will quickly deteriorate if there are any spills
I think high humidity environments will cause the boards to sag a bit, too.

Some people are a bit ridiculous when it comes to these. I've had several shelves made of partial board in my garage in GA for 5 years now. None of them sag. A simple spill may leave a stain but it's not going to deteriorate it that quickly.
On the bottom shelves, I use a 2x3 underneath (may have to cut something to size) to give center support and then you can put a lot more weight on the bottom, which is also a plus for stability.
The one thing I'll say is the ones I bought 20 years ago are built better (and thicker shelving) than now.
If on carpet I use 1/2 thick wood rectangle on each corner for weight distribution and have also used short wall straps (into studs) for a little tip prevention.
