Picked up probably the last one in the Twin Cities area a couple days ago for $748. No keyboard, no mouse, no power cable, even the Wi-Fi antennae were missing. The store didn't feel the need to discount it further based on that, so a quick email to the Better Business Bureau got me a call from Best Buy's executive team today with a $200 reimbursement. For just over 600 bucks after taxes, this was an absolute steal.

Why do I find this story hard to believe? The BBB ain't worth their name.

The BBB has, so far, in the past three years, resolved matters for me with Verizon, Samsung and now Best Buy. The only one with which it has failed has been Amazon - and by "failed" I mean I still got a response from [email protected], but they refused to do anything about my complaint (had to do with failing to honor a promise to replace a mis-delivered package). Better success rate than with the long-defunct Planet Feedback.

You are free to believe what you want, but what would I have to gain by inventing this story? Here's the e-mail they wrote me. I'd find the BBB confirmation as well, but it looks like I deleted it.

You're lucky. Wasn't meaning to call you a liar. But my experience with BBB is checking out a companies and most people will tell you that it's not legitimate. Glad you got a good deal. I got real lucky last December and got an open box Corsair Vengeance with a 13600k, RTX4070 and 32gb SSD ram for $299. It was listed as a 3070 but the geek squad guy must have found out the GPU was cooked and just threw a 4070 in there because the 3070s we're probably all gone. But it was just lying in the case not mounted with just the power cord attached. I thought it wasn't ever going to work. But after mounting it, it worked. And so far this has been a monster PC for me. Believe that if you want haha. Sometimes we get lucky. BB open box is hit or miss.

Glad it worked better for you bbb route to save some extra $$$. Sometimes it just works by calling cs directly avoiding bbb. At least it did 2 times for me in the past.

Sometimes it does and I did do that. First, they couldn't find my order. Then, two separate agents told me the only option they could offer was for me to return it or go back to the store (an hour away each way) which had already refused to discount it further. So, BBB it was.

Look at this deal I got in May. It was in great condition but there was a problem with the RGB lights. I could only get one color because I think the controller was messed up. Also, I would get flickering on the Edge browser, so I wasn't sure what the problem was, graphics card or driver issue. I was going to turnaround and sell it for $600 up but I didn't want to pass it off to an unsuspecting buyer. I returned it but I'm kinda kicking myself for doing that. I could have just hooked up the lights to the ARGB connectors in the motherboard and tried to figure out the driver issue. The RX 7600 kinda sucks though. The thing is I really just didn't need it. But it was an AM5 with a 7700 in it, kinda equivalent to my 13600k. Stupid me. I find the best BB open box deals early in the morning around 6ish.
