Reminder, these are good for 20% off a new (ad supported, no kindle unlimited) kindle of any type (plus however much they give you for trade in)
You can opt out of ads on your Amazon account under devices, it costs $20 per device.
In the olden days when you add a new Kindle device to your account they'd offer you a 30-day trial of unlimited but that has largely gone by the wayside, check the Kindle unlimited 3-month deal (here) to see if you qualify, I've not had Kindle unlimited for about a month and a half and I still don't qualify.

Thanks, took a plunge on the only available selection (32gb, black). This will be my wife's first Kindle so I hope the experience is good for basic reading.

Quick research showed nothing in the ballpark at this price point, even used/refurbished.

My mother had a Kindle paperwhite and she used it for her basic everyday reading and loved it. It is user friendly, has large print options, easy to upload books ect. I do suggest that you get her a case/cover for it. I think that your wife will enjoy using her new Kindle!

I had the very model for several years that you bought for your wife and traded it in for a newer Paperwhite a couple years ago. I had a regular Kindle for a few years before that. Kindle is one of my "desert island devices." if she's an avid reader she will LOVE it.
