legit question... why release an older movie like this in 4k? Because people will buy it I guess....
Some people want the best home viewing experience they can have. This price would be comparable to seeing it in on the big screen if you're lucky enough to have access to a theater that shows anything but the newest relases.
There's nothing wrong with watching "old" movies, especially great ones like Midnight Run!

This by far one of the best dialogued movies ever.

One reason to think about getting things on 4k Blu-ray disks (from my understanding) is they are tougher disks than regular Blu-ray and dvds. And usually the audio mixing in some of them can be better even if the video remaster might not be as good. But I'll add this to my collections as one of my favorites.

One of the greatest movies of all time. If I didn't have this already, it would've been an instant buy.

There is a car chase through Sedona, AZ in this movie. I live 35 minutes from Sedona. This movie is a must buy. In the top 20 or so of my "best movies ever....." Sincerely.

movies shot on 35mm have a higher potential resolution equivalent than even just 4k. if the negative was kept in good condition and the scan done properly, you could even get a really nice 8k digital scan from a 35mm print.

well yeah one is analog, one is digital, but it's not as simple as that. Film grain, focus, and motion can make a movie look worse in 4k than at least 1080p, if not 480p. I admit I haven't seen side by sides of enough examples to say for sure.

But I will say that charging this much for bluray medium is insane. These should all be 5 dollars max and they'd still have such a huge profit margin, even after the 'work' of converting.

People often point to how/what resolution a movie was shot in for picture quality.

Since almost all 4k movies are transferred to a form of HDR metadata.
How properly that is done is more the determining factor.

Same kinda holds true for the other half(better imo) of movie watching, IF it even gets one.

This movie is a great example unfortunately.
It's a native 4k resolution that didn't get a good transfer & no audio upgrade.
