usually, but it has some trade offs.Calibre ebook software can transfer books, but progress doesnt sync between devices, and cover artwork needs some setup to *always* transfer

I have been able to email some files to the regular Kindle using its assigned email address and gain access that way.

can i just use this for myself? are the kids ereaders nerfed in some way?

IMO it's the other way around--you can use it as a non-kids Kindle (I think it required an initial setting change but it was easy to figure out) and you have the added benefit of no ads

nevermind--did some research and it seems like the latest version of kids paperwhite kindle will have ads...
