A lot of people choose not to support anti-competitive practices like this regardless of the immediate value because the long-term economics are not in favor of consumers. I find it useful to share this information so that like-minded people can make informed decisions

How much are the labels? You get a ton for $15... if the hardware works well not sure it's end of world

You can buy cheap labels from AliExpress. I bought brother tapes as well, no problem at all.
There is a project called niimblue which allow you to print from your browser, pretty cool, as long as your device has Bluetooth connectivity.

Can you just tape the chip to the printer then use generic labels? Similar to the RFID was l refrigerator water filters?

just pull the RFID sticker from the OEM labels and stick onto generic labels. Works great.
