All of my Kasa devices have maintained their previous programming during wifi disconnects. You can set schedules on a temporary SSID and then shut off that network after programming.

This is not entirely correct. It's been a while since I've set these up but I believe after you've associated the device with your tplink account (to create the encryption keys) you can use python-kasa directly or through Home Assistant for local control. Combine with firewall rules and optionally VLANs to block internet access.

I don't like leaving chargers on when they aren't actually charging a battery. I also got tired of plugging and unplugging each charger for the various brands Slickdeals made me buy. With this charger, I can press the button to turn on and off each individual charger I'm using. I can also do it through the app on my phone and schedule when to turn it off after x number of hours.

I'm not totally sure on this, but the "newer" Tapo Version (Tapo P316M) which is only $5 more does list Matter control.
Woah, that's on sale too. That's a deal

If used as provided it does need the cloud. And used it for years that way. But a year ago I got a Green controller that has Home Assistant installed. The device costs around $100. Home Assistant can control a rather broad list of smart home systems purely on your LAN. Beyond Kasa. My Yamaha receiver, my Synology storage systems.

I like these Kasa power monitoring plugs but this power strip seems to have more than the usual share of negative reviews recently. And a few mention it melting including this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/custome...tl?ie=UTF8

I have one I've been using for 4 or 5 years. It works just about the same as my other standalone Kasa smart plugs and wall switches. I have founf that it works most reliably when plugged directly into the wall outlet. And not so great when connected to an extension cord our outlet extender.

This is an extremely outdated smart power strip. No fast charging USB, in fact zero USB C ports. USB ports are not controlled and are always using power. I've been using Kasa plugs for years. They're not bad, but unless you are already invested in this ecosystem I'd look elsewhere.
how many other powerstrips are there that do energy monitoring per plug?

if you need a smart usb power port, use one of the 6 with a usb brick..

my exact use case.
Sorry to be dense, but how is this useful for tool batteries? Why wouldn't you just plug your chargers into a standard power strip?

Is it actually documented that this is a bad practice?

Batteries these days are smart enough not to overcharge, but keeping them at full charge for too long is bad for them. Turning the charger off when they're done charging will only help them. Especially if you're charging those iffy mini chainsaw China special batteries. I wouldn't trust those chargers to be very safe...

Can you voice control each of the 6 outlets separately or do they all turn on and off together?
