1. The 12K displayed the "P1" code and stopped running.
- Was able to keep it running during a very hot stretch of weather by connecting the inside drain plug to a tube and directing it into a 5 gallon bucket. Very much a temporary/emergency setup.
- It was out of warranty (1 year) so bought a replacement. Took the old unit apart and found the outside coil clogged with debris. Note on page 8 of the owners manual states needing to the have the outside coils "professionally cleaned" if they are clogged. The issue with this design is the fan picks up water from the outside tray and blows it into the coils. If the water is contaminated with dirt, etc. it will clog the coils.
- After cleaning the coils, the unit runs fine and serves as an emergency back-up.
2. One of the 10K units is now dripping water with no error codes. Temporary/emergency setup is to put a 5 gallon bucket underneath to catch the drips. I'll be taking it out and disassembling it next week to find root cause.
Observations after 2 summers:
- All the air filters must be cleaned by vacuuming first and and then soapy water. Don't take short cuts.
- The plug water filter can easily clog and when clogged water will not be pumped to the outside. I purchased spares to have on hand when cleaning the filters. The dirty plug needs to be soaked in soupy water over night. I use a cotton swab inside and out of the filter screen to pickup any left over debris.
- Birds will build a nest in the void space on the outside area where the unit exits the window. Not good since birds are noisy and more importantly the nest material will be sucked into the outside coil. Adding a metal mesh screen to block off the area solves this issue.
Suggest cleaning the outside coils once a year. Not the easiest job, but can be done by taking the outside cover off and removing the fan assembly which allows full access to the coil.
Other than that, I may try one more summer with these but hoping to found an alternative with less maintenance.

I don't see any coupon on either one of my accounts. I would try it for $152 as the other poster got, but otherwise no.
