Fair point. I should have been more precise in my critique of their business model.

You're right that their search and indexing tech is proprietary. My "middleman" comment was referring only to the final generation model (GPT-4, Claude, etc.), which is sourced from other providers (plus their own internal Sonar model).

My preference is to use the synthesis models directly, but I concede that calling the entire service a "middleman" wasn't entirely accurate.

Love the AI for this. Noticed that when blocking google AD blocker filter (Adguard Home) , it blocks it completely. Just for anyone in an Privacy standpoint. Otherwise I love this AI and has been helpful.

Copilot's primary focus and best value-add is its integration with Microsoft 365, it's applications and data stores, etc. That is its unique value proposition. I use it all the time for work purposes and it's superior as an office assistant, largely due to the integration of course. The advantage of having it natively sitting inside your tenant, using your own data, one-click away inside your applications, and facilitating your meetings (without inviting the many worm-like meeting AI bots out there), it's unparalleled in that respect.
Outside of M365, its still very good and useful, but there are better options depending on what you're trying to accomplish. To be fair, the same can be said of ChatGPT or any other competing platforms. Plenty of fine options and some perform better than others depending on your specific needs at any given time.

Nice. Haven't really learned enough about the AI workflow to utilize a Pro vs. free subscription, but this will help!

chatgpt sometimes blindly lies if not fact-checked. I have done it more than just a couple of times.

No you don't. Perplexity has its own app or you can go to their website to use the AI. Comet is basically just a hybrid of the app and a browser.
