If anyone has to install an app to use a product it's intrusive these days. Idk if they just expect to point their phone at it and tell "ENHANCE" or what...
Some of us have self-hosted systems that we can integrate decent, unintrusive products into so we can manage and automate them through a single pane of glass. They make a lot more sense than having 30 different individual apps that know nothing about one another, and trying to remember which one controls a particular gimgaw.

For those interested, it looks like it can be integrated into Home Assistant for local control: https://www.home-assistant.io/int...ight_local
You still have to have this tied to a cloud account for that though, at the very least for the setup, correct?

Unfortunately, yes. Instructions are here (and linked from that first page): https://app-h5.govee.com/user-manual/wlan-guide
I imagine you could block internet access for those devices and remove the app after you've enabled LAN control, but I haven't tried it.

Do these work with a regular light switch?
Yes they do, and once on, you can control the light with the app to change colors, brightness, etc

Uh-huh, some of us do too, but that doesn't make a app intrusive

Installation instructions anyone? How easy is it to install? Would I need an electrician?

Regarding all the Qs about installation:

It's EASY. Here's a video installing this exact product that shows the whole process and how straightforward it is: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7MzDoXrAqeQ (you may need to copy/paste the link directly into your browser to avoid blocker probs)

Cheers!

Can you set defaults for when it's switched on via a regular switch? I have those round ceiling fans with lights in my kids' rooms and it's a huge pain because when you turn it off, it defaults to "light on, max brightness at coldest temp with no fan" and you have to use the remote or app to set it to anything else. I had hoped to be able to default them to like 50%, warm, fan on low or something but no dice.

Yes. Whatever it was set to when you turned the switch off, it will still be at that setting when you turn the switch back on.

Would you put them in a bedroom? My kids always want the RGBs and have the old school contractor lights, think this might be a good upgrade from that for them.
Yes I think they are good for bedrooms and hallways

Would love these for my two boy's rooms but unfortunately, it does not look like they are compatible with dimmer switches like Caseta Lutron.

I bought one to try out with my Zooz dimmer switch. Hopefully it works.

Would they work with a dimmer? I have a Lutron dimmer for my dining room light and would be interested in installing this instead.
