You would still need to see this as a hobby. I felt it was work as every hobby is so for those who have difficulty maybe this can offer answers to some tricks. But if you really sat down I think ppl would have figured these tricks out anyways.
For the joe learn up to your 12x12. That should suffice for practical use. This book does go above that and it can motivate some to work towards a goal. But it's really practice and a practice that needs time. No way around that hard work. This book can justify your discovery and motivate you. Just don't have the delusion it's some secret. There are but I think it's secrets that anybody would have come if they reached above the first stage of memorization. So this is more like an organized journal of one who has properly gone above what is required and the way they evolved.
Any hobby would go through the natural 3 stages of development: memorize rules, break the rules, leave that linearity of rules and creatively experience the "art".
If you need motivation this book can do that. But it's no quick route, while some tricks are explained this is more to the proper approach of advanced practitioners (ie be the number, feel it hear it not just see it). Thats not literally like that but it's the general method of looking beyond the surface. You will need time and devotion to do these.

Given everyone has a phone with them at basically all times these days, you can probably put less emphasis on memorizing the multiplication table. They should still at least know the underlying theory of how multiplication and division work, but in the current global political climate where people celebrate their ignorance and wear it like a badge of honor, and people don't realize that we're only screwing ourselves when we're old and the kids who are taking care of us don't know what the fark they're doing because we didn't want to pay like an extra $5 in taxes every year to support educational institutions.
