how does this perform in a laptop? will this generate too much heat? should I just look for a gen 4 drive? (legion pro 7 gen 10)
IIRC, more recent generations of gen5 run cooler... especially if they aren't using full spec such as 14GB/sec through-puts.. this is more like 10GB. It is most likely because they've been getting slower running chips in batches and it was time to not cripple it all the way down to 7.4GB and call it nvme 4, lol.

Instead of using its own DRAM chip, this SSD is DRAM-less and relies on a feature called Host Memory Buffer (HMB).
• DRAM-less Design: The drive uses the Phison PS5031-E31T controller, which is specifically designed to operate without dedicated DRAM. This helps reduce power consumption and manufacturing costs, making it a more budget-friendly PCIe 5.0 option.
• Host Memory Buffer (HMB): To perform essential mapping functions (tracking where data is physically stored on the NAND chips), the P510 temporarily borrows a small amount of your computer's system RAM (Host Memory) via the NVMe protocol.
While the P510 still offers very high sequential speeds (up to 11,000 MB/s read), its DRAM-less design means its performance, particularly in sustained random write operations, may not be as consistent as high-end Gen5 drives that include dedicated DRAM.
