Have these actually been through best buys repair procedure? Or are these just returns that have been verified to work by techs?

The latest slick deal for these 990 Evo Plus on Amazon is only a few bucks more for brand new... I'm not sure if the geek squad gamble is worth it.

I agree, though depending on your use case, the pro is significantly better. I'm just hesitant to get a used/ refurbished nvme since we don't know how much it's already been through. but I did pick up the 1tb Evo used like new for caching in my Nas. I can risk 45 bucks and a failure on read caching isn't something I'm too worried about.

They're mostly returns; people buy them, use them once, and then return. Also, with geek squad's backup services, they use these SSDs to transfer someone's data into a new system and then factory reset them and sell as refurbished.

Best buy.. its almost as bad as Amazon Resale. No thanks. At least buying new usually means new and the actual product purchased. (Except, when buying at best buy.)

Amazon resale - especially "used like new" - from my experience is 100% garbage.....Literally, the stuff they shipped me on multiple occasions was WTF!!! and belonged in the trash. Not fit to sell at any price.

I've had mostly great luck with used like new. My Apple Watch 10 was pristine and I got applecare+ on it. But… I did buy a fender large pedalboard. Like a $300 item. And some mfer stole the pedalboard and it had a ratty old ass other brand board in the bag.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Amazon resale. Saved me a lot of money on my last SSD and got a nice keyboard for almost half off in like new condition. Definitely a gamble but Amazon's return policy is pretty generous. I always take a video/ pic of me unboxing just to be extra safe.

Just to share my experience with this 4 TB 990 PRO that I had ordered from Bestbuy.
When I plugged it into the PC, it showed as 1TB. Turns out, whoever did the return put the sticker of 4TB on a 1 TB return. I have 2 more scheduled for pickup today at Best Buy, I am taking my laptop and my adapter with me to check it there on the spot.
Makes you think, how much attention really goes into their process of Geek Squad Refurbished?
TLDR: ASAP plug it into your PC and check it with Samsung Magician.

Got mine today from Amazon. Turns out someone put a the sticker for this drive on a 1tb 970 evo and returned it to Amazon. Back it goes.
