Personally I would just put the $280 towards an M4 Macbook Air ($799 at Amazon).
2017 is pretty ancient now. It is a solid device for content consumption due to the nice display and battery life, but I wouldn't want to do much heavy lifting with it anymore. Any cheap laptop with a Ryzen 5 is going to nuke the CPU in this Macbook in any sort of productivity tasks.
Maybe this would be good for an older user who just wants their iOS content to sync to a device with a larger display and keyboard?

Thanks for posting. I'll venture a guess that the downvotes are due to the Intel processor, which has functionality issues with newer versions of iOS. Most Apple users steer clear of these as a result.

Also this model has the famous keyboard fiasco where they randomly get dust and don't register or they register different keys. I've had to work with people with this era MacBook and it was so annoying when they couldn't log into different functions with their passwords because the keyboards failed

This is also a weak dual core processor, whereas the 2018 model had huge cpu performance upgrade by using 4 core processor

Stay clear of any Intel Apple products, unless it's free. Maybe the 2019 MacBook Pro 16" for $250.
This size and price, you can find 2020 MacBook Air 13" M1 for the same price and will destroy this in all categories.
