i hate how inconsistent best buy open box is. it really feels like they just randomize it. from trashed devices in excellent to near perfect ones in fair. makes no sense.
best to go to store, you can check in person. usually, can drop a tier or 2 and still get a nice one if in store

Is there a big performance difference between this and the Go S R1 extreme?

Not really, but the 16GB limit will prevent a small amount of heavy games from even running.

I am using it right now. \

After about 1 year, I have to clean the fan, re-appy thermal. Finally everything is back to normal now.

The MSRP for this was never $550. It has always been $699 (512GB model) and $749 (1TB model).

If I jump, is stick drift a risk on these? I would hate to have a stick go bad and have no recourse to fix it.

I have not had any issues with stick drift. One good thing about this is the original legion go is compatible with the new more ergonomic legion go 2 controllers. So worse thing is that you will have to purchase that. But honestly, with the weight of this thing I find my self using the kickstand and a third party controller most of the time.

LeGo has hall sensor analog sticks - no drift unless there is some kind of parasite magnetic field present.

I just got mine from amazon a few months ago and it crashes after a few hours of gaming when plugged in on performance mode.

People suggest using full speed on fans to prevent this.

Is that also what you do?

Legion Go S (Z1E)
  • Has a smaller screen (8" vs 8.8")
  • Screen is lower resolution (1200p vs QHD)
  • Slightly larger battery (55.5wh vs 49.2wh)
  • Double the RAM (32gb is way better for newer games.) (Ally X only has 24gb)
  • Ergonomics are so good. I never got a Legion Go 1, but the areas for your hands look so uncomfortable, with the edges and buttons everywhere...
Looks like it would have better batter life, based on the specs above, and better performance all around, especially when games need more VRAM.

There is definitely a performance difference on newer titles that need more VRAM and RAM. 32gb can let you assign 8gb of VRAM and still 24gb for the system.

Obviously on games that don't need more, it won't really effect performance.
