Is this really a good deal? Unless you use this for an external drive when you are limited by what usb version you have, spending $10 more gets you better cooling and better large file performance. Granted, if using at thunderbolt 4 speeds. It might not make a difference

The best deal was during Prime Days last week when the Plus version was $59.99.

Oh, they absolutely will. I've had it happen on multiple occasions, including with shipped AND sold by Amazon products. One ended up being an empty box. If you receive something with a barcode that starts with "LPN" it's almost certainly a return.

With the plus coming close to this price more often and the pro getting into the neighborhood, its a hard sell at this price unless like you said, the use case means nothing else matters. Especially in the 1TB range now that the prices are really starting to come down at higher storage sizes.
That said, for a lot of stuff, you will never see or notice the performance gains from the other slightly more expensive models, so its a bit of a "well one day i might want to use this for....." and deciding if that is worth 20 bucks more or so for.

I have an opened box SSD, sold as new from Amazon, sitting on my desk right now. I'm sending it back today. It does happen, and it did happen to me.

I picked up the EVO Plus 1GB deal from Amazon Resale during Prime Day. It was described as a brand-new unit with only box damage. But when I ran Samsung Magician for this first time, it showed over 100GB of data written—even though the SSD hadn't been initialized. That makes me think this was actually a returned item, not just a damaged-box special.

I picked up a new sn850x with the recent sale, sold by Amazon, not Amazon Resale that was taped shut and swapped. Could have been someone in the delivery chain I guess, but seems weird to have another ssd around to swap and it can happen with Amazon new, unfortunately.

This one has no heatsink. Is having a heatsink critical if it this will be sitting right below a Nvidia 5070 graphic card in a desktop?
