Owned one a couple years ago. They're strong enough for adults, but the board isn't long enough for adult shoes. Turning at an angle works but is tiring.

Not recommended for commuting places. The wheels will tear up on gravel and rocky parts of the street, they are also small which means more kicking to cover the same amount of distance that an adult-sized scooter would. You also have to consider that the weight it is referring to is the overall, meaning not just your weight but anything you are carrying, like a backpack with books, groceries, etc. The board and handles may not be good enough for an adult also, too short and small in most cases.
