I got the XM4's about 2-3 weeks ago. I like them. However, I am pretty disappointed in the noise cancellation. Really expected more. I also have Air Pod Pro 2's and those have a better noise cancellation. I have tested both in numerous places, including on a flight.
If you like audio quality, you can only ask for decent NC+audio quality. I have the XM3, when turning on NC, I notice a decrease in audio quality. If you are looking for headphones that completely block out noise with no music playing, these aren't it. Any good pair of NC headphones requires you to play music to drown out noise.
If you have the Sony headphones app, you can turn on NC instantly without the audio q's so you can see how much quality goes down.
Also for anyone with XM4, it is highly preferred to use these settings to make audio less muddy. I've also experimented a lot myself. Clear Bass +5, 400Hz -2dB, 1k -1dB, 2.5k 0Hz, 6.3k +3dB, 16k +4dB, Ambient Sound Control Off (muddies Bass with it on)
I'll also add in experience with Sony support. I bought this during the ebay deal early in the year (via FocusCamera ebay store who are authorized sony dealers).
Long story short, my unit stopped charging back in August. I contacted Sony tech support..they did some basic troubleshooting and then asked me to send it in to their repair center with the purchase receipt as well. Note tech support will ask u to for the serial # off the headphones...if u don't have it, u out of luck.
Tech support emailed me back within 2 weeks and said they couldnt repair my unit but approved a replacement unit from their sales department. I expected them to send in a refurb unit.
I received the replacement in a week and it was completely new (plastic seal on the outer box and it was retail version). Good to see a company who stands behind their products for warranty support.
Xm4 are better than XM5 & XM6 because they are more durable = why they are still popular. 3 years strong and they are as good as new. XM5 hinges are bad and easily break and the XM6 did not address this issue
