This Dell tower looks like a solid everyday desktop for office work, light creative tasks, and home server use, with the Core Ultra 5 drawing praise for strong CPU performance and efficient operation. The main appeal is the price versus similar Dell and Best Buy listings, especially since the Best Buy version appears to differ mainly by a 1TB SSD. The weak integrated graphics, 512GB storage, front only audio jack, and 180W proprietary power supply limit upgrades and bigger video cards. A practical pick if you want a compact workhorse and do not plan major expansion.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can work for light always-on server use and media apps like Plex and Immich, but the 512GB SSD is small for storage-heavy workloads. If you need more space, swapping in a 1TB SSD and using the original drive as secondary storage is a practical upgrade.

  • Yes, the standard Tower appears to have only one 1/8-inch audio port on the front, so headphones or speakers will hang from the front panel. USB speakers or a cheap USB sound card are workable fixes, and the Tower Plus model reportedly adds rear audio ports.

  • Yes. The same model is listed elsewhere with a 1TB SSD, and a simple upgrade path is to replace the 512GB drive with a 1TB SSD and reuse the original drive as a secondary D: drive.

  • The CPU scores very strongly on PassMark, around 32,265, and is described as powerful for office work and lighter creative tasks. The integrated graphics are much weaker, with a reported 3DMark score around 2,000, so it is not ideal for gaming or graphics-heavy use.

  • It comes with a 180W PSU, so GPU upgrades are severely limited unless the power supply is replaced. The case space is also tight, which further restricts what video cards can fit.

Ultra 5 255 has the Intel Arc graphics chipset. This is what you want at the moment.

So a good deal if you just need this spec and don't need upgrade.
I recommend to just get a 1TB ssd and swap it to C drive. Use the existing, 500, as D drive to double archive things.

I bought and tried to put in my 5090 and it don't boot
I hope you're just trolling. This computer comes with a 180W PSU. You probably can't add much to this without upgrading the PSU.

Only 512GB? Waste of hard drive. Would this work 24/7 as home server?

Ha haHa haHa ha I would guess a 5090 wouldn't even fit in this case. The thought of someone dropp $3k on a gpu and then going so cheap on the rest of the build made me lol, thank you.

cheapest at dell, at the moment, with that CPU, starts at $650...and that's slim, this one is tower.
Seems like a good deal

bestbuy has it for $800 https://www.bestbuy.com/product/d...J3K4L63YCT [bestbuy.com]

open box for 592
Tower? So can I put a 5070 super 18gb when it releases and upgrade the power supply to match the gpu if needed then?

Note that there seems to be only one audio port and it's on the front of the machine. If you use speakers or headphones with a 1/8" stereo plug, they'll be dangling from the front of the machine. Nothing technically wrong with that, but it may be an aesthetic issue for some folks.

Good callout. I noticed this too when I was setting it up for my dad. It looks like the Tower Plus model has audio ports in the back and front.

If you use speakers, one way to get around this is by using USB speakers.

Not bad, but another option is through dell directly.
Same base computer. Can get $100 back with AMEX, 10% off with email sign up, and dell rewards too.
But I'm not getting my Costco Executive 2% back (+more using their CC) 😄

Will the shorter 3000 GPUs fit in here?
