This tiny Lodge skillet is best for single servings and quick, high-heat cooking, especially grilled cheese, eggs, cornbread, tortillas, and small pizzas or baked treats. The cast iron holds heat well, works on camp stoves, induction, ovens, grills, and campfires, and can be easy to clean once seasoned and preheated. Its main drawback is size, since it is very small and awkward for cooking for more than one person or for larger bread. It is a niche pan, but a handy one for compact cooking.

Common Questions (4)

  • It works best for single servings and small portions: grilled cheese, eggs, cornbread, tortillas, toad in the hole, mini pizzas, and small baked items like cookies or brownies. It also fits camping, camp stoves, and small ovens, but it is too small for cooking for more than one person.

  • It can cook eggs well once properly seasoned and preheated; heating it for a few minutes and then cooking on medium-low helps it behave effectively non-stick. It is not Teflon, so seasoning and temperature control matter more than just oil alone.

  • Yes, it is very small and mainly useful for individual servings or niche uses. For larger meals it becomes impractical and can end up as clutter, though its size makes it easy to store in a drawer.

  • Yes, it is compatible with induction, oven, grill, and campfire use. Its small size also makes it handy for quick heating on a camp stove or direct fire.

Could work for a Detroit-style pizza (square/pan/deep-dish).

I have similar small(er) circular Lodge cast-iron that came with a creme-brûlée kit, useful for random pastry/turnover/pocket type of oven baking.
It's too small for that. But it would make a Hazel Park style pizza.

It's called a Wonder skillet because you wonder what the source of the cast iron is. Cooking on old engine blocks? Old train tracks? Recycled cast iron from overseas?
Well, you see, hydrogen atoms are fused into helium within a star due to the massive pressure of the star's mass, which releases nuclear energy by way of fusion, and as this process continues over time, heavier elements such as iron are eventually created through the fusion reaction until one day the star goes supernova, exploding into the cosmos, and disbursing these elements, including iron, throughout the cosmos. So, the answer to your question as to the source of the iron is, the stars man!

My 97 year old grandma eats very small portions of food. She's hispanic and loves tortillas. This, combined with a little butter and an induction cooktop heats up super fast for making her a tortilla con mantequilla. I use the smaller "fajitas" tortillas (a hair bigger than street taco size), a normal tortilla would be too large to fit.

Abuelita approved.

Seems like a nonstick pan would be better. Not like you need huge amounts of thermal mass for some eggs.
The best non-stick is cast iron and it doesn't take much effort.

Got one. Work well for my one morning fried egg. It is small. Does not fit my larger size bread. Plan on getting an 8" one eventually. It is cheap enough and small enough I can shove it in a drawer without worry about taking up too much space. Could see doing a single burger patty on it as well.

Definitely redneck made. I used to have a farm 15 miles from the Lodge plant. It was a whole different world there.

I have some round cast iron about this size. Great for making single serve cookies, brownies, pizzas, or baked mac n cheese in the oven. The kids can dump the pasta in and choose their own extras like broccoli or spinach.

Also great for perfect english muffin sized eggs (they overflow the bread but thats perfect), grilled cheese, or just reheating a single serving of leftovers that don't microwave well like fried foods.

The problem is you need one for each person you're serving (and a potholder to set it on) because it's basically cookware and tableware in one. But it's nice that it stays hot for a very long time while you're eating.

Overall the best thing we make in them is individual pizzas for the kids (and adults), but the most common thing is eggs with spinach and onions and mushrooms, or cookies. If I didn't already have like a dozen round 6" pans I'd definitely get some

Not a bad idea if you want a quick way to heat up cast iron for a grilled cheese...would hold up on a camp stove or direct fire. Probably not for me but it has it's application! A bigger pan means a bigger area to clean and more water usage. A heavier to lift pan would make it more likely to fall or drop or hurt your shoulder/elbow. Bigger pan means a bigger pain to store....I'm kinda talking myself into it! I love my Lodge cast iron and Lodge carbon steel pans!
Water?!? near cast iron? Are you MAD?!
