This tiny Lodge skillet is best for single servings and quick, high-heat cooking, especially grilled cheese, eggs, cornbread, tortillas, and small pizzas or baked treats. The cast iron holds heat well, works on camp stoves, induction, ovens, grills, and campfires, and can be easy to clean once seasoned and preheated. Its main drawback is size, since it is very small and awkward for cooking for more than one person or for larger bread. It is a niche pan, but a handy one for compact cooking.

  • The skillet's very small cooking surface limits usefulness and can become kitchen clutter.

  • The small size may not suffice when cooking for more than one person.

  • The skillet can require more cleaning and water usage because a larger pan would create more mess.

  • Seasoning alone may not prevent sticking, and eggs can still stick without additional technique.

Only way to make cast iron non stick is to use butter or a gallon of oil lol.
it's not non stick like teflon, but if you season it and preheat to an appropriate temperature it'll cook eggs and other sticky stuff without sticking. state of the art circa 1950

I don't think seasoning it alone will help. Can't just season it, then drop an egg on it and expect it to not stick. More to it than that.

Very small size—if you're cooking for more than one person this won't suffice alone.

practically speaking you have to use some oil or butter, even on teflon

True but Teflon you can use anything and just a drip of it. Cast iron or stainless it seems like only butter works the best. Other oils suck

Would this be too small to cut into the shape of a spatula and be useful? Can anyone confirm the measurements of the surface area and handle?

I've been seeing a lot videos lately of people cutting old/damaged cast iron pans and making spatulas with them and want to give it a try but this might be too small regarding the handle length and flat surface area.

Actually a well seasoned cast iron pan can cook an egg without any additional oil. Granted it would be silly to do it, but I tried it a few times after carefully seasoning (sanding, oiling and baking many cycles until it had a clean hard surface) and it worked.

I bought 3 of these and have been using them to cook eggs. They work great. To get them non-stick you just have to let them heat up for a few minutes, and then cool on medium low heat.
