Anyone can buy this brand new from Apple Education store for $1499.
Why get open box just for $12 discount?

The Apple Education Store is for students, faculty, staff, and parents in the U.S. to purchase education-related products at a discounted price. This includes current K-12 and higher education students, as well as their parents purchasing on their behalf. Employees of public or private K-12 and higher education institutions, including homeschool teachers, are also eligible.

Not anyone has to verify their student status.

Again not everyone qualifies for the program.

Yep, those who WANT to pay full price don't qualify. For everyone else, no question asked.

As a BestBuy Total member, I get 2 years of AppleCare+, which is worth more than $100.

$100 is too small a discount on a $1600 laptop to settle for an open box. Just pause for a second and give it a thought.

If you are still not convinced, think about this: In a couple of weeks, Best Buy, Amazon and/or Costco will be selling these at a $100 discount off the new. $100 is a typical sale price on Apple laptops. I don't have a crystal ball, but I feel like it happens all the time.

For US buyers, just scroll to the bottom of the website and select "Shop for College" for $100-$200 off any Mac (discount depends on price tier, will be $100 off of new M5 MacBook Pro). No verification needed. I thought everyone knew this already lol.

The people thumbing down the edu discount have to be morons. There is no check. The edu savings website is open to anyone. You're literally arguing and volunteering to pay more money for absolutely no reason. Either they work for apple and care way too much or they're actual idiots.
